Pikachu (ham and cheese) and Spaghetti Carbonara Bento

My kids have show and tell once in awhile on various topics. They had done favorite toys, plants, custom coins, animal habitats and etc. Yesterday, my boy had to bring his favorite food to school for show and tell. He requested spaghetti carbonara.  This lazy mom pathetically used a ready made sauce for it instead of cooking from fresh. :P

To cut my guilt, I made him a Pikachu upon his request too. It was done by ham and cheese, by cutting it with rice mold. Instead of tracing and cutting its mouth, I just simple cut it free-handedly. LOL!

Oh well… I was running out of time!

Macaroni and Egg Bento

My boy has pretty hectic schedule on Tuesdays, so I decided to pack some macaroni and cheese for today’s bentos. I topped a piece of sliced egg on the macaroni, and gave it a fast decoration.

Guess who am I?

Sleeping Pikachu

It’s a busy busy Tuesday for me, so I can’t blog much about today’s bento. Here’s what I packed for the kids…Pikachu in pokemon ball bento box!

The Pikachu was made by 2 quail eggs, dyed in yellow. You can do so with some turmeric powder mixed with water, or yellow food gel and immerse the eggs in for about 20 minutes. I did by keeping them in a container and keep them refrigerated over night. Then I pinned the Pikachu on the garlic bread with spaghetti strips so that it won’t move around.

I did one for my boy too. In fact, he helped me in cutting the tiny decorative details. :)

Pikkachu and Torchic Bentos

It’s our once a month sinful SPAM attack again! I packed SPAM sandwiches for the kids this morning, and added half a hard boiled egg in their bentos too. Besides that, I filled up the gap with cherries and blueberries.

As for the eggs, I decorated them as Pikkachu and Torchic, the characters from Pokemon.

Witchy Pikkachu and Boo Ghost Halloween Bento

My kids are into Pikkachu frenzy lately, all thanks to peer pressure and daddy who bought some Pokemon vcd for them. Besides that, they managed to get some books about all these characters from Pokemon, on their names and how they will evolve over time. I don’t read those books with them, knowing that I can’t remember their names, so I “dumped” the responsibilities to hubby. LOL!

Today’s bento is about Pikkachu again, but I tried to collaborate it with Halloween. I added a witch hat on Pikachu, and added a quail-egg-ghost (which says BOO) in the meal.

This is how I fixed the witch hat.

I cut a piece of cheese in this shape, and place it over nori.

Then, I wrapped the cheese with nori.

This is how it looks like in the end.

I bent the nori-wrapped-cheese lightly and pinned it to the sides of the sandwiches with spaghetti strips. Then, I topped a triangular nori on the top, and added a carrot strip to “conceal” the joining parts.

So, here are the bentos:

My boy’s Pikkachu and ghost have different expressions though.

So, Happy Halloween everyone!

Ham and Cheese Pikkachu Bento

My boy is in Pikkachu frenzy lately, and he made me having McDonald for 3 conservative  weeks because he wanted to collect the Pikkachu toys, came together with Happy Meals. Gosh, I really had too much McD lately!

I promised him that I would fix him another Pikkachu bento (sorry if you are already bored with this theme) and he requested that I add a Pokemon ball for him. He said Pikkachu stays in that ball. Ok, I admit it, I know nothing about Pokemon!!!

So, I figured that I could just use this Pikkachu rice mold (bought from Bento Craft) to cut the sandwiches, ham and cheese.

The sandwiches were spread with jam and placed at the bottom, topped with ham and then cheese. Pikkachu was decorated with nori, cheese and artificial crab meat.

As for the Pokemon ball, I used a quail egg. I gently shaped it into a round ball when the quail egg was still hot. I wrapped half of it with artificial crab meat (not so well done actually) and added nori and cheese onto the ball.

So, here are the bentos:

Fixed the same theme for my gal to make things easier for me. :P

There are corn, sweet potatoes, kiwi, rambutans and cherries (for my boy only) in the bentos too.

My boy loves it but he requested me to fix other Pokemon character next time. O.o That my boy, you will have to wait long long for it….

Pikkachu Bento Again

My boy is into Pikkachu these days, and he requested Pikkachu again. I did something similar like the previous simplified Pikkachu bento, but added more details with white cheese (for the letters) and nori. This time, I didn’t stack the cheese on ham though.

My gal doesn’t want to have corn and wiener in her meal today.

The wordings were cut with these alphabet cutters:

They had just arrived at my office yesterday, along with these new gadgets I ordered from J-mama.

My kids are very excited with the new tools, and so am I! LOL!

Pokemon Characters Bento

I don’t know much about Pokemon, and the only character I know is Pikachu. My boy requested a Pikachu bento out of the blue yesterday, so I Google and found other Pokemon characters and decided to fix them for today’s bento. I used this bread cutter for the sandwiches:

But I cut off the “ears” for the penguin.

The blue egg sheet was my first attempt with the food colors, but I didn’t stir it well. You can still see the blue spots. LOL! I shall try this again, when time permits.

My gal’s bento

I don’t know about the names of these characters, please let me know if you can recognize them! Thanks!

Here’s my boy’s bento, with Pikachu and dunno-what’s-the-name squirrel.

Ah…I don’t know how kids remember all these characters. LOL!

Pikachu Chicken Balls Bento

My boy requested to have Pikachu in his Pikachu bento box last night and I was so thrilled about it! I’ve always wanted to fix Pikachu, but my kids are not so familiar with him. Furthermore, I saw a lot of Pikachu bentos at some Japanese blogs lately, and I’m so “gatal” to try. LOL!

So, this is my boy’s Pikachu bento:

I prepared some chicken balls this morning and packed 2 for my boy. The chicken balls are decorated as Pikachu, but too bad it’s not the right color. It looks like Pikachu has got a tan after sunbathing. LOL! The ears were cut from smoked cheese with an exacto knife and I stacked 2 slices of cheese together to make the ears thicker so that I could pin them to the chicken ball with spaghetti strips. I placed a layer of nori below the cheese (cut exactly like the shape of the ears) to avoid it from melting fast. The eyes were cut free hand too since I don’t have the right size of puncher.

I didn’t fix Pikachu for my gal because she doesn’t like frozen meat. Besides that, she said she just wanted to more fruits especially strawberries today. :P So, maybe I will fix Pikachu for her next time.
