Influenza A virus

I thought I would have a busy working week, but things are not going the way I’ve planned. Hubby was sick, and then my boy got sick too. He was infected by influenza A virus and had very high fever since Sunday. Hubby brought him to the hospital on Monday morning while I had to rush to an important appointment. Of course, we didn’t expect that it’s influenza A, until the doctor did the test and confirmed the result. He was admitted immediately and his temperature was beyond 39.5 most of the time.

I rushed back as soon as possible and packed some clothes for him and me. I arranged to get my gal to stay at my office under the care of my SIL and office maid before heading to the hospital. In short, everything happened very fast, but thank god we had a lot of help from the people around us. At least I don’t have to tag my gal along to the hospital with me! She might be infected too as she’s feverish now, but I shall monitor her closely.

My boy spent a night at the hospital, being measured every 4 hours but his temperature didn’t drop below 39 deg. Needless to say, he had to be str*pped and sponged each time his temperature was taken during his 24 hours stay. Gosh, hubby and I were basically up all night long, but the nurses were great. He’s in a very good care indeed.

This morning, his temperature dropped to 38.4 and he’s allowed to be discharged. At first hubby was wondering how much the medical fee and hospital fee will be since we don’t have expatriate insurance coverage here, no matter how many times I asked him to check the available option from any agent or www.wholesaleinsurance.net. *roll eyes* But then, it’s quite affordable for a single room stay because hubby didn’t mention a word about the bill after making the payment. LOL! With hubby and I staying together with our boy, we needed a single room. :P

Anyway, it’s not really about the money spent. It’s more about getting our boy the medical help he needed. We shall monitor him at home, and I’m crossing my fingers that my gal will be fine.

Air Bed

I’m making a habit of tugging in early these days, and I feel way much better in the morning. Even if I might get drowsy after a heavy lunch, but I know that I’ve got enough sleep in the night, and I don’t easily get tired after a long day. Of course, my daily coffee helps a lot too. LOL!

Previously, I don’t care much about the bed we bought. I would normally check our budget first, then try to find the best deal we can get. I might try lying on it and as long as the mattress supports me well, I would just pick that. :P

Thus, pardon me that I’ve only known about air bed today. :P If you are interested in getting one, check out the Sleep Number Bed Comparison, as comparing to SelectAir Bed. The price different is about 40% cheaper, but you are not compromising in terms of quality.

Check out this Adjustable Air Bed buying guide to get a better idea how to purchase one too. You can actually get a free trial of the air bed for 15 days, before deciding if you should buy one. Now, why didn’t I get this trial offer when I purchased all my beds from the store?

Picky Eaters

Some mothers thought that my kids are not picky with food, oh how I wish! They are very picky with veggie, and the only green vegetable which they like is broccoli. I have to modify the way I cook the greens so that they are willing to have some at meals. My boy loves veggie soup, and it’s quite easy to be prepared. As for my gal, she sticks to blanched broccoli and carrots.

I hope that they will love greens more, so I’ve always told them they veggies are great for their skin and health. Hubby will joke that if they don’t take as much greens as he did last time, they will end up having ugly complexion like daddy’s. LOL! Even the best acne cleanser can’t help during teenage years.

Too bad that this advice only works once in a while. So, I’m still working on encouraging my kids to love eating greens!

Dry Cough

My gal has some dry coughing these days, and she doesn’t sleep well at night. Whenever she coughs vigorously in her sleep, hubby and I would wake up to check on her, as from previous episodes, she tends to vomit after coughing for a while. She is fine during the day, and only coughs a lot at night. So, right now, it’s not too serious.

I’ve got her some medicine from one of the home medical supplies here. This pharmacist speaks good English so I normally get our medicines here. But if the condition is not improving in a week or 2, I will get hubby to bring our gal to the pediatrician.

Vitamin Supplement

We have a lot of vitamins and supplements at home, but only hubby and the kids are taking them. I don’t have the discipline of taking vitamins, except during my pregnancies. I simply hate swallowing pills. :P

On the other hand, hubby takes his vitamin every day, unless he’s traveling. Maybe he will take testosterone cream if he needs any, but right now, he’s taking those vitamins from Amway. He even keeps some at my office just to remind me of taking them.

Gee…I better go swallow some vitamins. :P

Home Care Service

When my grandaunt was ill, my aunt hired a maid to take care of her as everyone had to go out to work. The maid was good, but she didn’t have medical knowledge like a nurse. She could take care of my grandaunt on simple tasks, but when it came to giving medication, my aunt would rush back from work to feed her the med.

We knew about home care nurses but it’s quite expensive here in Malaysia. Unlike the US, you might be able to find a home care assistant from Fort Lauderdale Home Health Care. I’m not sure about their charges, but if you are interested, you can check out the link.

Anyway, my grandaunt passed away a few years ago, and to me, I think it’s a relieve to her. She had been senile for many years and suffering from illness.

Herpes Zoster Infection?

I suspect that one of our office staffs is having some skin problem which is similar to Herpes Zoster Infection. I can’t be too sure about this as I only checked on the internet to know more about Herpes Zoster, but her skin has blister-like rashes just like the pictures. I hope that she will pay the doctor a visit soon and get some ailment for her skin. It’s getting worse and it’s not subsiding.

She really needs some antiviral drugs now, and I hope that she won’t delay her treatment any further. No matter what’s her skin disease is, I hope that it’s not contagious!

Medicine Names

I was checking my niece’s medication just now and I am not familiar with the names. They are different from what my kids had when they had cold when they were babies. Only a doctor knows the best about what to subscribe, so we just have to follow the prescriptions.

But if they are looking for free drug reference for iphone, they can always get one from Epocrates soon. It might be useful for them if they need to know more about a particular drug. Epocrates is working together with Apple to launch a drug guide for iPhone and maybe the product will be launched pretty soon.

For me, I will just have to remember those drugs which are common for children, so I don’t need a drug reference at all!

Stem Cell Technology

I found it surprising that stem cell technology is not that commonly known in Bangkok yet. My SIL didn’t store her baby’s stem cell as she wasn’t aware about this when she gave birth to her 5 months ago. Over back home, most parents are aware about this but it is a personal choice to or not to store your baby’s stem cell. It can be easily done that way and it is totally painless for both mother and baby.

Nonetheless, women can still do this again since stem cell can be harvested from menstrual fluid. The stem cell can then be transformed into different types of cells such as cardiac, neural as well as bone cell. Nonetheless, the cost of future stem cell therapies is not included.

But if you are interested to know more about C’elle Stem Cell Research Innovation, check out the link for more information. Take a look at C’elle Client Testimonial if you are still not convinced about this. By all means, if you can afford it, why not?

Storing My Stem Cell

I have started to think about this seriously. I have a family history of cancer, that’s why I decided to store the stem cell of my little girl. But recently, I found out that women can also store their stem cell from menstrual fluid, so it sounds like something great to me. It might be really costly, so it is best to find out more about the pros and cons and All About C’elle before you decided to do so.

On top of that, getting the stem cell from an adult is not as simple as it seems, but by harvesting it from menstrual fluid, it is totally painless. So, just think about this. I might want to do so if I can afford it. But firstly, I wonder what it takes to Become C’elle Distributor? I might just want to make some money if I can Become C’elle Distributor too. LOL!

But I’m too busy with my new life in Bangkok now, so I better don’t think about anything else except my kids and our new business.
