Dry Cough
My gal has some dry coughing these days, and she doesn’t sleep well at night. Whenever she coughs vigorously in her sleep, hubby and I would wake up to check on her, as from previous episodes, she tends to vomit after coughing for a while. She is fine during the day, and only coughs a lot at night. So, right now, it’s not too serious.
I’ve got her some medicine from one of the home medical supplies here. This pharmacist speaks good English so I normally get our medicines here. But if the condition is not improving in a week or 2, I will get hubby to bring our gal to the pediatrician.

Try to boil water with half handful of these ?????????????/?? (either one will do or all if you have them readily, to relieve dry cough more effectively than relying on western medicine.
Realise that WordPresss do not understand Chinese characters. The ingredients are Sweet and Bitter Almond Kernels (aka Nan Bei Xing), Bulbus Fritillariae Cirrhosae (aka Chuan Bei Mu), Lily bulb (aka Bai He), Snow fungus/ Snow Pear.
Paige, I know snow fungus, and pears. But the other 2, I’m not sure what they are. Furthermore, I don’t stay in Chinatown so a bit hard to get chinese medicine. But I shall try white fungus, pear and rock sugar for her. Thanks for your suggestion.
There’s a few simple home remedies my mum used to use on my whenever I had a cold/cough:
;
- Milk boiled with garlic, strain and add some honey;
- Onion peel tea;
- Gomphrena globosa (I am not sure what this is called in english so i wrote the scientific name) dry flowers’ tea. You have to let it boil 4/5 minutes. It has a very mild flavour so your little girl probably won’t complain about the taste compared to the 2 options above
- Lemon juice and honey;
There is one that my grandparents used to do for me but I am not sure how it works because at that time I didn’t have dry cough but i had a lot of cough.
It’s needs some caution while making it:
- You heat a small pot until it’s very hot. Turn OFF the heating source and put some alcohol on the hot pan, be careful while doing this. Prepare a cloth with cotton inside it (something similar to a small pillow) and pour the alcohol on the “pillow”. While it’s still hot but not so hot that’ll burn put it on the person’s chest and let him/her lie in bed well tucked in with the cloth on the chest until the alcohol cools down.
I used to have it before bedtime so I’d fall asleep before my grandparents removed it and had no cough throught the night.
I hope your little girl gets better!
