Mickey and Minnie Meet the Noppon Brothers

Here’s the bento I planned to submit for VIRTUAL BENTO BOX BATTLE but I didn’t. Interested to know the reason why? It’s because I have forgotten to snap a photo of me holding the bento!!!!

How to enter:
Send an email by March 31 to bentobattle@japansociety.org with the following information.
Attach 1) a JPEG of your bento design and 2) a JPEG of you holding your bento (for verification only, not for display). Photos should be less than 20 MB combined.

I’ve been very busy this week, so a lot of things tend to slip off my mind. :P The bentos were all eaten already, and I don’t want to redo.

Anyway, let me explain how I came out with this idea of Mickey and Minnie meeting the Nippon brothers. If I would to go to Japan, I would love to visit the Tokyo Tower. It’s a famous landmark in Japan, so I’m not going to miss it. The Noppon brothers are the mascots of Tokyo Tower. Besides that, Mickey and Minnie are “originated” from US, and almost everyone knows Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

I’m trying to create a bento based on this mission:

• The mission of Japan Society: “…to bring the people of the United States and Japan closer together in their appreciation and understanding of each other…”

“Mickey and Minnie meet the Noppon Brothers” bentos symbolize the strong friendship between US and Japan. All characters were cut from ham, cheese, nori, artificial crab meat (for red) and kamaboko (for pink).

Mickey Meets older Noppon Brother Bento for my boy. Both characters are shaking hands.

My gal’s Minnie Meets younger Noppon Brother Bento. He’s giving Minnie
a flower as a token of friendship.

I had a great sense of regret when I realized that I have forgotten  to bring my camera to the office, if not I would have snapped a photo of me holding the bento. But now I realized that I can just do it with my phone!!! Argh!!!

So, in short, I would give this bento war a pass. :P

oh no! too bad :( i really liked your idea of the 2 characters meeting each other. i think you should still email your entry and explain what happened. and tell them if it’s not ok with them, then you don’t have to be qualified to win, just to have it displayed at j-Cation.

What a creative and fun idea for bento! I like all your handcutting, so precise as always. Seems so strange to take a photo holding it; no one is home when I make mine except the 3yo. She would barely get me in the frame, I think!

Oh no!! I hope you can still submit this bento for the contest. They are cute and I like the idea behind. Just took your picture holding the picture of this bento, will that count?

Tona-mama, yes I cut all with exacto knife, with some drawings. Thanks ya! :)

laurabento, that’s a great idea. Maybe I can just submit but not for the contest. I’m totally disqualified now.

    Thanks Lil’chan! :)

Susan, I’m a bit tied up lately, so I guess I dun have much time for another creation. :(

Agnes, you can check out bentocraft.com. I shop often from this store lately. Another option will be checking out my bento gadget category. There are some links given by the readers. Sorry that I didn’t have time to sort all links for you.

Sheri, LOL! Hope that you will win. :)

    Lia Chen, ah…that still means I don’t follow the rules. :P But it’s ok, I really scr*wed it. :P

Wow I think these bentos (and the corresponding idea behind them) are amazing! Such a shame about forgetting to take a pic of you holding them. I hope they will still be shown and that you will be able to re-enter with your bentos. Condolences, but congrats too for making such brilliant bentos and for being so creative!

  12. shoppingmum, 28. March 2010, 22:20

    Thanks Asfora. :)

Michelle Bui, that is waxed paper, bought from nst.my. :) I use it mostly for the basket bento to avoid the food from moving around. It’s a great filler!
