Old McDonald Bento
I try to use most of my bento tools if time permits, so that I won’t feel so guilty of buying them.
My kids have always wanted an Old McDonald bento, with the farmer and a few other farm animals in it. Thus, it’s a great opportunity of using the various animal cutters in my toolbox.

Various cutters (please click on the photo if you are interested to know more about how I used the cutters)
I prepared the farm animals yesterday to speed things up. Besides that, I got my kids to help me to flatten the milk bread as it’s too thick for the cutter. By doing so, it would prevent the bread from getting stuck in the cutter, and the bread is more compact after a few rolls too.

I packed more fruits for my kids today, and there are rambutans, oranges, blueberries, cherries, guava (for my gal only) and some corn and baby carrots too. Old McDonald was decorated with meat floss as his hair and mustache. I should have made his a hat with egg sheet, instead of corn, and it might look better that way.

My boy’s bento with a dog, a chick and a sad horse. I decorated the horse a sad face for the horse because I don’t think it looks like one. LOL! Nonetheless, my boy likes his bento.

Here’s my gal’s bento with a cat, a pig and a lamb. I noticed that I’ve forgotten to add some whiskers for the cat!
My gal doesn’t like her bento because she complained that it does not look like her kor kor’s bento, and she wanted a horse. O.o I was running out of time to redo her animals, so I just “ignored” her request.
OK gal, mommy’ll fix you another Old McDonald bento next time ok? And it will come with a horse!

Haha.. your ger’s bento is cute too…. but then i still prefer your boy’s bento :p the dog is so cute :p
My oh my…..this is way too cute. Just amazing. You are truly a devoted mum. Your kids are very lucky. I am quite new to this and am learning everyday. It is quite time consuming too. Thanks for your tips …it does help give me ideas and speed things along. Thanks so much.
Claire
Ellena, thanks! Next time really have to fix my gal a horse…
Claire, thanks for your comment.
Take it slowly, and just enjoy the process of packing food.
shopping mum!!
oh no the damage to my pocket is done!!
i just ordered from NST (my 2nd batch) pikachu, pooh & tomika bento boxes. And pooh saucecase & ABC mould.
I realised that some popular products only come in like 1 unit so i kiasu, quickly ordered and checked out my cart. haha…
I saw My melody and shinkansen bento boxes too but when i clicked on them, no picture found. I think they’re OOS thats why lah.
The stuff on NST seems to be a bit costlier than BMP hor? But carry more products lah.
I cant wait to receive them. *hee*
Such a lovely Old mcdonald’s ‘farm’
Very cute. Besides being creative, you’re the most consistent bento packer around too.
haha forgot whiskers, i won’t notice it if u never mention. I was drooling over yr pics edi. Now i gotto wipe my screen.
shoppingmum,
I attempted my 1st bento this morn for hubb since it was his birthday.
I had some problem with the stripe cheese. I prepared them last night but i’m not sure if its due to a different brand of cheese (i bought President) that it turned out q soft and sticky. So sticky that when i used the mould to cut out a shape, the cheese got stuck in it and when i tried to get it out, the stripes were all falling apart.
I know u use Chesdale cheese so maybe thats harder?
Also, how do u prevent the strips from coming apart? ( I did leave them outside to let it stick for a while)
Thanks Little Prince’s Mum and Sasha.
3lilangels, I have to pack for my kids to eat at our office after school, whether I like it or not. *roll eyes* So if I can spend a few minutes extra to make their bentos nicer, I will try to do so.
Shi-Chan, you mean the cheese melt when u took them out from the fridge? It should be hard, and you have to cut them in shapes when it’s still hard. When it’s soft, it would be harder to cut. I use Chesdale, so far it works for me only.
My stripe cheese stick quite well, except the last slice, which I used for the chick in this bento. It’s because the back part not so even already since it’s the last slice I have. But it still stick on together with a small crack.
well the cheese didnt melt totally when i took them out from fridge. Just that they’re already soft to the touch even after straight out fr fridge. Guess its the quality of cheese again. I will try out with Chesdale next time and see if its better.so take them out, cut to half, stack them, wait a while to stick tog, and then slice vertically? How long approx to let them stick? I waited too long, was like a bit mushy by then. haha…
think i need practice practice practice!
Shi-chan, I think just a minute or 2 will do. Slice them and wrap up and keep in the fridge.
