Animal Sandwich and Banana Fritters Bento

Firstly, I’ve decided to stop numbering my posts. :)

Secondly, I thought of having a bento break, seriously. Thus, I packed something simple for my kids yesterday, so that they could have their bentos in the car. There were just butter cookies and raisins in their mini lunch boxes, without any decoration, and my kids didn’t want to finish their tea! My boy said, “Mommy, can you do something nice for me? I want some fruits, and some other food also, but not just raisin and “biscuits” like this…” O.o So, I guess they were rather “disappointed” when they opened their lunch boxes yesterday.

This morning, my kids asked me to pack something for them by using the new animal cutters, and I think I should oblige.

My new bento tools from Bento Market, and the animal cutters are the ones on the top right.

Besides that, I’m very IDLE at home because I skipped work today (and many days to come. LOL!). My mom is here, and I better keep her company. We have done some shopping together, but I can’t just shop all day in my Walking Boots! I’ll be broke before hubby comes back then. LOL!

So, with lots of free time on hand, I packed my kids’ bentos just now, which consisted of banana fritters, mangoes, lychees, blueberries and a cute animal sandwich each. My boy picked giraffe while my gal wanted a piggy.

And my gal’s Missy Piggy

I must say, I love the animal cutters! I think my kids will be very happy to see today’s bentos, when I pick them up from school. :)

You are like me. Can’t stop buying bento stuff. LOL! Got told off by my Granny to stop because now having storage problem.

I love your decorations! And yeah, at times I feel like your kids, no decor, no eat! LOL!

It’s a labour of love, no? :) And looking at it from that way, makes it all worthwhile. :)

(Although I check with mine a bit! I only do a bit of decoration and that’s enough to satisfy me.)

I’m actually in a bit of the reverse situation. I make the bentos for myself and my Dad is checking my Flickr to see what I am up to.

I’ve the animal cookie cutter from CP too, but it’s a gift for my mom. I’ve tried to use to cut some bread the other day, but it was to hard to get the bread out ler.. they stick inside. You have the sandwich cutter too? eeee, it’s very niceee. i love using it! :D

Ellena, if buy must use. :P Haha!

Jacss, thanks! I cannot load them in drawers, and all the while the tools are all in toolboxes. Aiyo, now that you mentioned it, I really have a lot of tools! LOL!

Wena, wow, your dad is so sweet!

Winnie, I noticed that for these cutters, it’s best to use thin sliced bread. The wholemeal wheat bread I got are very thin, it’s even thinner than the normal white bread I usually get. My bread stuck inside too, so I used the tip of the knife to gently tuck it out. :)

I love your desings, so cute!! I have bought the cutter too but haven’t got them yet :)

BTW, mind me asking some tips from you Amy? what do you use to decorate the pig’s eyes and nose (the black thing)? Seaweed? Coz they look so small and so neat! Do you use mayo to hold those seaweed in place??

Do you just leave the bread as it is until the time your kid eat thier bento? Coz for my girl’s previous bento (bread), after 1 hour the bread gets so hard due to expose to the air for long time ….. the texture became so hard :(

Caroline, I used spaghetti strips for the ham, only a tiny bits will do to pin the ham on the bread. As for nori, I prefer jam. Most of my tea bentos are fixed in the morning, brought to my office in cooler bag and kept in the fridge until late afternoon when my kids come back from school. They will have the bentos at the office, and I will take them out in room temperature for like 30 – 45 minutes before they are back. So far, the bread is still ok, not really hard. I tried the white bread before, it’s not hard. The only thing I have to take care about is not wetting the bread as it’s kept with fruits, and some fruits do moist the bread in long hours. So I separate them with silicon cups.
If you have concern about this, try to wrap the bread with cling foil when packing. It might help.

Arlene, thanks! Yet to use the rice mold… Dunno wat to do yet. LOL!

Tiffany, thanks for dropping by so often!

It would be our losses if you stopped. I admire your creativity. Don’t stop completely or maybe at a lower pace.
