Bento#175: Kids Bento and A Puppy Bento
I wonder if I should stop numbering the titles? It’s getting nearer to Bento#200, and I wonder how much further will I go? LOL!
It’s been awhile since I last involved my kids in bento-ing. They have been rather busy since school started, but they are still keen to have “fun with their food”. Thus, last Saturday, I let them fix their own tea by coaching them on how to cut the bread into shapes, pack some fruits and decorate the bentos with picks.

I got these animal picks from Daiso some time ago, and my kids have been bugging me to use them. They are quite long, so they are great as skewer picks. Here’s what my kids had come out with…

My boy packed his tea by himself, with some help from me. He also chose a dog pick to be placed on his cherimoya.

On the other hand, my gal was trying to have a nicer meal. She only cut the bread and asked me to “finish” the rest for her. LOL! That’s why her bento was neater.
It’s really nice to see them putting in their effort , even though my gal had only participated for a little while. She likes banana, and I think banana is great for digestion, probably just as good as Bowtrol.

My bread tasted nicer because I cut them myself.
It’s a bit hard to get my kids involved on weekdays, and partly it because we come home late and they have some homework to complete. Nonetheless, I will try to fix their bentos for them, as long as they love it.
Today’s bentos are speedy and simple again and I got this idea from Sugarbunnies, which are 2 cute puppies from Sanrio. I was trying to get the cutters but to no avail. Thus, I fixed the puppies from quail eggs as shown below:

This is my boy’s bento, with 2 puppies. I didn’t do a good job in dyeing the brown puppy, so there are patches of browhish spots. LOL!

My gal will only have a puppy due to her smaller appetite.
The quail eggs were pinned to the sandwiches with spaghetti strips to prevent them from moving around.
BTW, I might not be packing bentos for my kids daily for the next 2 weeks since my mom will be here with us. Hubby is going on business trip so I might not come to the office as often as I do. Thus my kids won’t have to be “stuck” at work with me after school and I can bring them straight home!
I will only pack for them if there is a need, so I’ll slow down in updating this blog.

I bet Granny will spoil all of you to bits! LOL!
BTW, I’m updating my blog less because streamyx connection is lagging like mad towards the site. But I’m still updating my Flickr site.

Oh, a question about picks : are they microwavable or should I pull them out?
Wena, added you as friend in Flickr already. The picks, I don’t think they can leh. I always take out if need to reheat the meal.
Oh dear, going to miss you… and your ideas. What is a cherimoya? I also have those picks and I bought them because they are long. Haha.
SIG, it’s nona in Malay. Oh, don’t miss me too much ya? LOL!
hi ShoppingMum, Sawadee Kah,
I am from Belgium but half Thai.
I make bento for my little boy as well. He is now 1 year and 7 months!!
We do not have a lot of bento stuff here in Europe.
But my little sister is leaving for Thailand in a week to join my parents.
I don’t like to ask my parents to shop for me in bkk. But my little sister proposed me to go shopping for me. I see you shop at Daiso. I guess the easiest shop to reach for her is at Siam square. Where can I send her for the niko niko face punches?? I want them so bad (o;
Please can you give us some advise in adresses etc.?
Maybe I can send some bath and you can shop so my sister can visit you?
Many thanks and kop kun kah
Ohhh no, supplier on leave for 2 weeks
Gonna miss u….
That’s not only you been so creativity but Justin too. His packing skill is very good!
ya, gonna miss you a lot since i love to hop to this blog everyday to look for nice bento.
Dera Friend!
Greetings!
Although my young days are far gone (LOL), I must say that kids are probably happier now when they are given bento. That is probably the best way to have them eat healthy and well-balaced food!
I thought that the bento had reached the States only. Ifact, it seems to be everywhere withthe difference that it seems to be oriented toward kids’ food in other countries. In Japan, people of all ages, female or male have them regularly. As for me, a non-Japanese (I’m French) I have one on Monday and Tuesday, and sandwiches on Friday.
Cheers,
Robert-Gilles
