Bento#158: Froggies Bento
Ten little frogs, sitting on a well,
One leaned over and down he fell,
Frogs leap high and frogs leap low,
Now only nine frogs sitting in a row.
(continue on until last verse…)
One little frog, sitting on a well.
He leaned over and down he fell.
Frogs leap high and frogs leap low,
And now there is no frog sitting in a row.
OMG! I forgot my nursery rhymes! LOL! I think it sounds like this, and please correct me if I’m wrong. It’s one of my kids’ favorite songs, and thus I decided to fix them a frog bento.
On top of that, I’ve just received the quail egg cutters from Bento Market, so I wanted to try them out. This set of cutters come with a booklet, and there is a frog shown on the front page. Even if the instruction was not shown, but I have a better idea on how to fix a frog from a quail egg.

The quail egg cutter set

I prepared 2 quail eggs and some kamaboko (the pink part was cut and kept away)

I made a small cut on the quail egg with this cutter.

Cut a small piece of kamaboko with this yellow cutter which looks like a “B”.

Gently slip the kamaboko into the quail eggs.

These are the punchers used for the details of the little frogs.
Then, I proceeded to decorate their sandwiches. My kids cut the bread for me last night, and I just had to spread the jam for them.

I used this round cutter (from the same quail egg cutter) to cut some circles from kamaboko.

Pin the small circles into the bread with spaghetti strips.

Add some nori to the frogs. In order to form a bigger mouth, I joined the nori together to form a bigger smile. You may use some jam or butter to paste the nori onto the bread.
So, here’s the end result:

My boy’s bento with froggie sandwiches, a little quail egg frog, some corn, strawberries and grapes.

Here’s my gal’s bento.
I tilted up the bread for photo shooting, but I “pushed” them all down before closing the bentos. I think the frogs will look better if they are green. BTW, this set of cutters come with a nori puncher too, but my puncher was not working well. It gets stuck after a punch and I have to push it back in. So, I still prefer the Carl’s punchers!

Wow.. seems like can do a lot of great stuffs with this new toy…
Love your cute little quail egg frogs ….. :p
Hmm..when you mention green frogs, just remembered : Green Pandan Bread. Although, I don’t see them in the bakeries as often as during my childhood days.
Gosh, that old nursery rhyme. Brings back memories of singing with my little cousins (and I have too many, it’s never ending flow of kids). I like the 5 little ducks song too.
Not to mention the clapping games we used to play. There was one I remembered about a Chinese restaurant and a loaf of bread. Haha!
Sorry, disgressing a bit from bento. I made dino eggs yesterday.
Bit tricky but managed to with quails eggs. Dug out my old Carla craft punchers from 5 years ago.
Now in the process of planning a huge bento wedding present for my friends getting married in Aug. Sea theme. Not going to be easy I’m sure.
Ellena, let’s see if I have anymore ideas with the cutters. LOL!
Wena, ya, I saw from your blog.
