Bento#155: Sweet Potato Bento

Today’s bentos are speedy and simple. Each bento has steamed sweet potatoes, corns, heart-shaped rose apples, mangoes and strawberries.

My boy’s Tomica lunch box.

My gal’s My Melody lunch box.

Don’t you agree that cute picks are always great in bento-ing?

BTW, thanks for all the wishes to my gal. :)

    Hi Shoppingmum,

I am so attracted by all the bento u prepared for your kids, and now it become a must to read your blog every morning before I start my work. And each time after I read, I feel guilty to my boy … haha… anyway, Good Work… (I voted your bento, although u didnt won, but I still think yours is the best.. hehe)

I am wondering, how do u make the cheese stick to the potato without falling down when u place the rabbit like that?
Besides, how to ensure the cut fruits do not turn into brown if the bento is not eaten immediately? I tried once, I packed some mango for my boy to kindi, it turned to brown and my boy was so disappointed with it.

Thanks for sharing all your nice, pretty bento.

Looking at the bears, I’m debating whether to grab my Granny’s sengkuang or not.

Can hardly wait for my cutters to come. Your bentos looks very very well made. The pictures jump out like it’s from the cook books! LOL!

Vanessa, oh, dun feel that way! I pack bentos for my kids because it’s a must, they need to eat after school. Both kids finish at about 5pm, and go to office with us until hubby finishes work. So, by the time I cook dinner, it’s kind of late, thus they need bentos to keep them stuffed. :P
Thanks for voting for me. :)
Oh ya, that’s not cheese, I used mini wiener today, and I pinned the wieners on the potatoes with spaghetti strips since they are edible.
As for fruits, u have to pack them as soon as you cut them, and keep them in the fridge or cooler bags. Fruits and cheese need to be cool at all time.
Maybe you can think about getting a cooler bag and a icepack for your boy to kindy, just make sure u pack a handkerchief inside as the bag might be wet when the icepack melt.

Wena, I miss sengkuang leh!!! So hard to find here in Bangkok. And thanks for your comment. :)

Actually, have a question : how do u keep the bento foods looking fresh and in shape?

  10. shoppingmum, 25. April 2009, 7:38

Wena, to keep the fruits fresh, they must be kept cool at all time. I normally keep the bentos in my office fridge until an hour before my kids come back from school. They finish school rather late, like 5pm, so I have to keep all in the fridge. Try to get some cooler bag and icepack, they will keep the fruits cool this way. But if fruits are not convenient, then you might have to think of other alternatives. But I guess some fruits like grapes, plums (if you don’t cut it), a whole banana, and etc can be kept fresh in room temperature. As for bread, we don’t have to worry about it. But for rice and noodles, it’s best to consume in less than 5 hours, if not it might be too cold, or less tasty. I have a microwave at my office too, so I can heat up the bentos.

    Hi!
I’m so glad I found your blog a couple of weeks ago. I can’t stop looking at all your creations. So creative! I’m now inspired to make bentos for my daughters (ages 2 and 3 1/2). Can I ask you what nori punches you used to make the bunnies and bears faces?

  19. shoppingmum, 29. April 2009, 9:38

Maria, they are Carl’s punchers, you can find them from some major book stores. :)
