Bento#124: Hello Kitty and Winnie The Pooh (with Multi Cutters)

Actually, I was running out of idea this morning, thus I decided to fix Hello Kitty and Winnie the Pooh again. I used the multi cutters, and they are very handy for speedy bentos.

At the same time, I saw SIG‘s comment and post about having problem with Hello Kitty’s face, so I would like to share how I place in HK’s face features. If you have the Hello Kitty bento book, you might be able to get a glimpse on how you can have a more accurate Hello Kitty, by tracing the face, and then place the tracing paper at the bottom of the plastic wrapper, and cut out the tiny pieces accordingly. Then just place them all into place based on the drawing. I have never done any bento like this, but it’s worth trying. The face feature will be very accurate.

But this is how I did mine.

For me, I like to place the nose first, after placing the head accessories.

Then, I will put her eyes in. The bottom of her eyes are almost parallel with the top or center of her nose. Then I will place her middle whiskers in, somewhere parallel with center of the nose too.

After that, I will place the top and bottom whiskers. If you have a bigger hair accessory, like a ribbon, just move the nose downward. Hello Kitty will still look almost her Hello Kitty, even if you place her face features slightly lower.

As for Winnie the Pooh, I didn’t use the facial cutter for its face. I still prefer to use the seaweed punchers.

I used the music note puncher from Daiso for its eyes.

The leaf puncher was used for its nose, by cutting it into halves.

For Pooh’s lips, I used one of the sparkling eye puncher, the one with the tongue? But I cut of the tongue though. The smiley puncher by Carla was used for its eye brows and the line above its nose. So, here’s the end result:

My boy’s Winnie the Pooh, with 2 pieces of garlic toasts hidden beneath. There are Khewsawei mangoes, sweet potatoes, strawberries, seedless grapes and steamed carrots too.

My gal’s all time favorite, Hello Kitty. She said “wow” again this morning, no matter how many times I fix Hello Kitty for her. LOL!

I have to admit that by having the “correct” tools help a lot. I simply don’t like to do the tracing and cutting in the morning rush, but I don’t mind doing it when I have an ample of time.

On the other hand, I’m thinking of setting up a blogroll for bento blogs. If you have a bento blog and if you would like to join, please drop you URL at the comment section. I think a lot of bento mothers in Malaysia and Singapore already started charaben, and I saw a few nice blogs around. It would be nice if we can share our ideas and creations, or maybe things like how to use a particular tool which we set aside in the toolbox?

I know how it feels to collect as many tools as we can afford, but some times, not all of them are being used. So, if you have doubt about how to use any tool, let’s see if all of us can come out with some ideas to share. How about that? It’s a waste seeing them lying down in the toolbox screaming for help. LOL!

Oh …. how nice!!! Actually I have made a Hello Kitty Bread for my girl but I didn’t put it in a Bento coz it seems like so much worked after I have done the hello kitty :P :P First timer :P

BTW, I think I have seen you reply to this but couldn’t tract back your post so I am going to drop my question here again, hope you don’t mind ya, how do you clean your puncher? I use to wash them under the tap water but I am afraid that they will get rusted pretty soon, will they? I can’t read the instruction on my shoe puncher as well coz all of them are in Japanese :( Thanks, just love all your bentos so much!!

Caroline, I just wash them with water, but I always make sure that no seaweed is stuck inside before placing them under running water. The smiley and sparkling eye punchers tend to get stuck, so I don’t really like them. I hope that the shoe punchers work better for me.
Make sure that you swing off the excess water, and if possible, use a hairdryer to dry them. Then again, who has so much time? LOL! I just let them dry in open air or just the fan to blow on them while I get myself ready for work. 10 minutes in the fan is good enough to dry them, but then I still leave them on the table until I get back from work. Then only I store them away.
BTW, Caroline, do you have bento blog?

Wow, splendid! Tks for the very detailed tutorial. Will try to learn from that. The other thing that impresses me most about you is that you are very smart with all your punchers and tools. I see you utilise them all very well. :) I’m just a beginner and I don’t have that many cutters, and beside, mine isn’t really a bento blog, but sure I’d be glad to join in your blogroll, just don’t expect great things. Hehe.

Yeah… I also always have bento block now as I don’t cook that much (no one eats!). I also don’t like to give Darrius too much cheese as he will get constipated (too much calcium) and that basically left me not much of ingredients to work with now. Then my hubby said I should not prepare too much sausages and hams too as they are processed food… so like that you say how to pack nice bento? LOL

SIG, aiyo, everyone was a beginner at first. LOL! But let’s share our bentos. :)

Angeleyes, oh ya, ham and sausage are being used so much. Maybe can use other alternatives? :) Alice, I will add your blog ya?

That’s what I do too, shopping mum, with my punchers, leave them to air dry. Just push in the puncher and wipe off whatever excess water then let it dry in the wind. By the way, what is the shoe puncher?

  8. shoppingmum, 24. February 2009, 14:43

SIG, oh, I haven’t got them yet. They are from CP’s store. I think you might have seen them. They look like shoes. LOL!

Amy, one question…I read from your previous post that you put your bento boxes with a cooler gel inside an insulated bag..I assume? If you are putting fruits and breads together in a bento box, does that mean the breads will be cold when they eat them? Just curious…:).

Khongfamily, in fact, I put the bentos in the fridge, if I’m at office, and keep them until my kids come back after 5pm. I take them out an hour earlier to make sure that it’s not too cold for them. My kids don’t complain much about having cold food, maybe it’s because they are hungry. If they are not hungry, the bread will go to hubby, but that’s unlikely these days.

Some how on my office computer I am stuck on your older entries (umbrella bento) if I go straight to your site, funny huh? So this is a comment all in one post as I seem to have problems accessing your newer ones.
Wanted to say that I really like the girl and boy bento u made previously – love the hair made with 2 types of cheese. Its unbelieveable but the supermarket next to my office only sell one type of cheesedale. I must remember to look out for them when I am next in a supermarket. Also liked the eyore and pigglet bentos.
As always, great to see your creativity & ideas in using the punchers!

Hmmm, i have to agree with SIG’s comment. I like the way u can multi use the puncher and tool on different design. Even i got the same puncher or cutter i also will nv think of how to fully utilise it on different design. Great job!

  15. SIG, 25. February 2009, 12:44

AnnieQ – I totally agree.. even with the same equipment I’m not very ‘flexible’ so it’s great she shows us how to use in multi ways, agree? ;P

  16. shoppingmum, 25. February 2009, 12:56

Esther, video will be a bit hard at the moment as my hands are quite occupied in the morning. LOL! I can’t estimate how much time I really spend on preparing 3 bentos everyday, as you already know, 2 for my kids and one fruit bento for me and hubby. I guess I spend roughly more than an hour, from cooking (if necessary) to cutting fruits and to packing, and juggling between my kids and having my breakfast. LOL! Basically, I’m trying to do a lot of things at the same time.

Javapot, aiyo, what happen? Have you tried clearing your history or cache? :)

SIG and Annie Q, thank you! I know most of us have a lot of tools so let’s try to max them out. :)

  18. caroline, 25. February 2009, 20:17

Hi Amy, oh i c ….. thanks for the tips on how to dry my puncher. I think you will love your shoe puncher very much as after I tried mine, they are so sharp and nothing get stuck (for the moment being la) :)

Oh … so sorry to say that I don’t have a bento blog as yet coz I am just a novice in bento-ing and didn’t even start my first real Bento yet. Just started to do some animal shape bread for my girl to eat without any deco or anything yet. Anyway, if I have one in the future, I will let you know so that I can be eligible to join your bento blogroll ya.
