Bento#98: Sandwiches and Quail Egg Ox

I had a night out with a friend from Finland last night who took transit at Bangkok airport, before leaving to Finland. Thus, all of us slept late, and I woke up later than usual. I thought of doing the ox as shown by Aichigo, but I was totally late! So, I did strawberry sandwiches again. I saw how cute and easy Kaerenmama did with her heart cutters in different sizes, and since I have the set in star shape by Daiso, I decided to give it a try. I hardly use this set, so I better make good use of it!

For the ox, I used an quail egg, just like I did for my new year bento. But this time, I cut an oval shape on the bread and slipped in the egg so that it’s embedded on the surface. I added the ears from egg white too, unlike my first ones which didn’t have ears.

My boy’s bento with an ox, strawberry jam sandwiches, another quail egg and some blueberries. I have to use the lettuce to fill in the gap.

A close up of the ox.

I only gave my gal a quail egg because I’m not sure if she will eat it, but I just feel like trying again. She has strawberries in her bento.

This is another speedy bento today. I think it’s time I pack something else for my kids tomorrow, instead of bread. They might get bored with it already! LOL!

Hee hee…looks like we all surf the same Jap sites. I was just chatting to Ramlingmoo and Chooi Peng a few days ago and we were just raving about how cute those Kieranmama’s heartshaped sandwiches were. Kieranmama makes things looks so easy isnt it?

Both japanese bento-er Yukinko and Asami did almost similar cow bento like Aichigo’s too, as prob with most other jap moms. Cow bento are really popular with Japanese moms this year. Various versions, all moo cow. *grin*. Yukinko has a similar steps like your cow bento but its a great idea of yours to use eggs instead of rice like she does. You need to round out the rice while with eggs you neednt have to.

That’s a really good idea to embed the quail egg. I saw how the jap mom embed their quail eggs in cut out ham rings. That is an option too.

Ellena, the horns are picks, which is one of the designs I got from CP’s story picks. It’s easier that way than trying to cut a horn. LOL!

Allthingspurple, I thot of fixing the ox egg so it won’t move. LOL! Thanks for the tip of embedding egg into ham. Mmm….that rings a bell in my mind now!
