Japanese Bento Books
I found some Japanese bento books at Kinokuniya Central World yesterday and grabbed a few.
I must say that I was excited to get the books, but then I can’t read Japanese, so I can only look at the pictures. Not all the books show step by step instructions, and if you are looking for charaben books, you can only go for this one from akinoichigo as it’s the nicest of all the books I got.
But if you are regular reader to her blog, I guess you have seen all her creations there. Since I can’t read Jap, I really can’t tell how to do the bento meals like hers.
I can’t find any books from Mari miyazawa, so I guess I will have to order online.

Wah you got so many books! cool! Have done the ???? and !! orders….wait + c…LOL
Then you must sign up for Japanese classes to read the instructions…LOL!! After that, post tutorials in the blog for us…hahahah.
Angeleyes and me got the Akinoichigo books the last time we went there. It wasn’t there the first time as it is a new publication. I find however, that her blog features newer and nicer bento than the book.
And wow, the kinokuniya has more kids bento books than the one in KL. I think those in KL are snapped up much faster, so there’s less choices left. There’s more adult bento books here than kids ones.
I have been looking out for ssmama’s books as well but they don’t have it here yet. Maybe will do like you do and order online.
The thing about these books is, they gave me lots of ideas, but I don’t have the time to implement them. I have the first book since March and only implemented one of their ideas in October about 7 months later, the Hello Kitty bento. Terrible isnt it? haha.
Amy… you are fast with the books too eh! I also bought a few from e-bay and some together with Christene when I was in KL and sad to say I have yet to try any of the arrangements!
Arlene, too bad only one copy each, if not i surely get for u. There’s one with 2 copies, but I din buy, not nice la…
Khongfamily, I think I better learn how to read Thai first before venturing into Japanese. LOL!
Allthingspurple, there are a few Kinokuniya here in Bangkok, but not all have Jap books. I found that most of the famous bento books (by those popular bloggers) can’t be found, maybe all gone fast fast liao. LOL!
Like you, I doubt that I have time to copy the ideas, but will try to do so on Saturdays when I pack lunch. It seems we can do more if we “play” with rice.
Not sure about the humidity though, but I gave up on HK punchers and prefer the metal ones.
Angeleyes, who really have the time to do cutie stuffs everyday here? LOL! We just have to do our best, but then, the books are nice to look at, so really have to grab.
look at the photos is good enuff already.
