Bento#32

I found my idea of fixing mini pizza from Kel’s Place. Actually, I wanted my kids to fix their own bentos this morning, but they woke up late, so I had to start without them. This time, I had my Canon camera with me in the kitchen. :)

It’s pretty simple, and I just used wholemeal bread as the base. Since I prefer to minimize the wasted when using a cookie cutter, I would normally try out the cutters first and see which designs fit the most.

After that, I spread some ketchup, put in some mixed veggie and sausages and topped the bread with cheddar cheese and mayonnaise. I prepared another 2 pieces for hubby and I too before placing the tray in the oven for about 5 -10 minutes. As long as the cheese melted, the mini pizzas should be ready.

While waiting, I cut the mini cocktails and steam some corns and broccoli. Place the cocktails in boiling water for a few minutes so that you will have the shapes you wanted.

When everything’s ready, let them cool down in room temperature. I got myself busy with the strawberries and decorating 2 little octopuses for my kids and then place everything in their lunch boxes. I decided not to use any baran or silicon cups today and just do something like “hide and seek”. I mean hiding the little octopus!

The end results…

For a closer look, check them out…

Boy’s octopus chose a wrong spot. :P

As for strawberries, I placed them in a separated container as I would keep it in the fridge at the office. I try not to refrigerate the mini pizzas so that they won’t turn soft by late afternoon.

The strawberries with animal picks. My kids know which picks belong to them and they will have equal shares.

That’s my bentos for today. I hope that my kids will wallop all the broccoli before I serve them their daily Yakult!

Interesting mini pizzas…sure the kids will love it!! Thanks for sharing on how to make a nice bentos….will definitely learn from you :p. Btw, do your kids eat the steamed broccolis? What do you do with the bread leftover after you cut them?

Khongfamily, ya they eat steamed broccoli, but only the top part. They just won’t eat the stem! I would normally just steam veggie at home, so they got used to it. As for the leftovers, I dipped in my coffee as part of my breakfast. LOL!
But you can try a recipe by Allthingspurple (http://christeneskitchen.blogspot.com/). I tried once but my result was yucky because I didn’t bake it long enough and I forgot to line the bottom of the baking tray. :P

    it’s cheaper than NST.
For the rest, you can cut them into shapes, but takes time and practice… :P

Kiasumum, the thing with the sausage cutter is we have to find the sausage size that fits well. Sometimes, I have to alter the size to fit in. Then, put the cut sausage in boiling water for a while and it should form the shape. If you still have doubts, you can email me. :)

mini pizzas are such a delight to little kids, aren’t they? Amy, just an idea. if you have a ramekin cup, you can cut a square bread at the corner to fit into them and then just top them with the pizza topping. It will act like a shell/cup and prevent stuff from falling out during transport. I think lunchinabox has a tutorial on that. I read that somewhere there I think. you can also check out http://www.nst.my at her kitchen blog on the bread stuff in a ramekin. She has pictures of them. Hope you don’t think I am being kepoh.

Allthingspurple, you are right! I saw those ramekin cups and some kind of cutters at some blogs, maybe its Veronica’s (NST’s owner) blog. Gosh, I have to get another new tool again huh? :)
BTW, no kaypoh la, I’m glad that I get some input from you. :)
