How To Choose A Baby’s Name?

Even if I don’t have plan for another baby, but sometimes, it does come across my mind that some baby names are perfect for our kids’ little sister or brother because they rhyme well. LOL! The same goes for Chinese names, I think the children will share one of the words to show that they are siblings. Actually, we supposed to follow the family name list which is carried out from one generation to another, but we didn’t do so. The word doesn’t sound nice for my children’s generation and none of their cousins are using it too. :P

Some Chinese prefer to have their baby’s names predicted and chosen according to lunar calendar or by sifu, and most of us believe that it will bring more luck to the baby. We didn’t do so for our kids because we don’t think that it’s necessary. Besides that, we are not that superstitious!

But then again, a baby’s name lies on his parent’s or immediate family’s choice. I think I will just choose one that sounds nice and not too hard to pronounce!

Preschool Urge

I hate forcing my kids to school but in our current condition, it’s best to send them to school other than spending time at the office with us. Both hubby and I have to take turn to attend to them and our work is badly affected sometimes. Maybe we need to get a new software for tasks and getting things done, but none in this world will help us in parenting and dealing with our kids’ needs!

So, we have decided to send them to a nearby preschool in 2 months. They might not be able to speak Thai yet, but maybe they will learn faster at school by interacting with other children. Besides that, we have to concentrate more on our work and try to make a living here.

Nonetheless, we are trying to do the best for our children. Once we get home, we have to do our best in giving them the most attention and quality time. Like most working parents, it’s not easy to do so but we will do our best.

Poor Living Condition

I’ve just come back from a day trip to The Kingdom of Cambodia. I know that the country is poorer to mine, but still, I got a shock at seeing how the children live on the streets. Most of them don’t wear shoes and walk around the muddy ground bare footed. Furthermore, some toddlers are bottomless, so you can forget about seeing the babies in nappies and diapers too.

I saw a mother breastfeeding her baby by the street which is totally dusty and muddy. She was smiling and telling to sell some second handed shoes even if she’s not wearing one. There was a little boy about my son’s age, sitting by the road begging for money and in his arm, there was a baby about less than 2 months old. My heart sank seeing the baby being exposed to hot sun without proper clothing and furthermore it was rather windy yesterday.

I guess San Diego assisted living homes will look castles as comparing to the Cambodians living condition. It was a reality lesson to my children who are exposed to the other side of the world for the first time.

Taking Care of Myself

I’ve been pretty busy lately, but I know how to unwind myself. I shop a lot lately since there is a sale going on in most shopping malls. That’s my way of getting some exercise as I walk and hold most of the bags by myself. I know it doesn’t sound like I’m exercising, but I really use a lot of energy while doing so.

Being a mother didn’t give me much time for leisure, but like most mothers, we will figure it out how to plan our time. Furthermore, it’s more about getting fit and relax ourselves from being stressful. Sometimes, stress will not only kill us mentally, it will bring other health problems too if we are taking good care of ourselves. It’s best to think and plan ahead, so get yourself insured or if you can afford it, store your stem cell for future use. Who knows if we might need it? My way of relaxing myself is pretty simple, I just need more shopping! LOL! Of course, I eat well, ok?

Stress for School

My boy brought along his textbooks from Malaysia, but he refused to do the exercise or read the books anymore. He’s getting lazy and after weeks of idling at the office, he has lots interest of going to school. I think I’m going to start all over again when he’s going back to preschool and I will have to deal with his tears and excuses. He takes some time to get adjusted, so I better be mentally prepared for that despite my busy job at the office.

This time, it’s going to be harder as we are sending the kids to Thai school. He might not be able to understand the teachers and he will need more time in making friends. But I hope that he will be able to cope well as his little sister is going along.

Gosh, schooling is not only stressful for kids, it’s stressful for me too.

A Mother’s Choice

I love nursing wears and I used to buy a lot when I was breastfeeding. My SIL has stopped breastfeeding her 6 months old during the day, so her baby is supplemented with formula milk. She knows all about the goodness of breastfeeding, but it’s her own choice on how she will breastfeed her baby. Furthermore, she doesn’t wear nursing clothes, nor nursing bras. It might be inconvenient for her to breastfeed in discreet if she wears the company logo shirts when there are other men in the same room. She used to cover her baby with a nappy when she nursed, but like any 6 months old, the baby will pull the clothe away. :)

She might not be breastfeeding exclusively, but her baby will still benefit from breastmilk when she nurses at night. It’s a mother’s choice, and every mother knows what’s best for her and her baby.

I’m Last On List

I’m beginning to like my life here, even if I’m so occupied, but I know that things will get better years later. I have to sacrifice some of the “luxury” stuffs I did before, but hopefully I will have more time for that when the business stabilized.

Anything about me has to be pushed aside to make ways for my kids and hubby. I spend more time at the kitchen to ensure that they are eating healthily while hubby brings the kids for a swim or to the playground. When I have my free time, I knit for them. I didn’t even have time for exercising, so I think I’m getting fatter soon! LOL! Maybe it’s time to get to the gym and spend some time on the elliptical. We have gym facility here, and I don’t even have time to go there. :(

Hopefully, I will have time for exercising soon.

Don’t Run with Sharp Objects

One of a child I know almost had an accident last night. She was running with a pencil in her hand but she tripped and fell to the floor. Her naturally reflex was to support her body with her hands, but she almost puked the pencil into her eye. Gosh, it was a scary sight and her parents were so shocked to see that.

I keep telling my kids not to run around with a sharp object in their hands, even if it’s one of those round pointed promotional pens. It’s best to be safe than sorry. I remembered that that was a news about a girl accidentally killed herself when she tripped with a chopstick in her hand. So, anything can happen in just a split of second.

A Degree is Important, But…

Personally, I think a degree is important. But if my kids have other plans than going to university, I will try my best to respect their decision. Going to hair schools might offers a good career too since professional hairstylist is a great profession now. I know a few successful onces who make close to RM1000 for rebounding too!

Anyway, as long as my kids have found their dreams and passions in their future career, they will have my full support. I don’t want them to end up in university and getting a job that sunken them all day long. Working life doesn’t have to be that borin, ok?

Food Bribery

I hate food bribery, but by all means, it works sometimes. :P My kids are feeding on junks more than usual since the day we started bring them to work. Like most children, they can easily get bored with the little office space and will surely mess things around. Thus, everyone likes to feed them food so that they can be quiet for a while.

I know that I should offer them healthy snacks, but they have long been corrupted won’t take it. So, it’s best to keep them busy instead of offering them more junks which are totally useless.

Another thing is, their grandparents like to offer them food so that they will behave as well. Food bribery is getting harder if it’s done by older generation as I don’t have any control about that. Gosh….I think I just have to find a balance point when it comes to food bribery. As long as they eat well at normal meal times, I better stop being so paranoid about it.
