Do You Have Menses When You Breastfeed?

Someone asked me about this yesterday, and I was pretty surprised that not everyone knows about menses during breastfeeding. Actually, it depends on individual mother, some mothers breastfeed exclusively but their menses return after the first month of labor, but for other mothers, they won’t have it until they wean off their babies, or sometime during the first year of breastfeeding. I had mine when my second baby was more than 6 months old, but I can’t remember the exact time. As for my first, I got pregnant, so breastfeeding will not prevent pregnancy, but it will only slow down the process of returning to fertility.

Here’s a chart on the time period for return of menstrual among breastfeeding mothers:

So, don’t worry if you have yours too soon or later. If you have any concern, talk to your doctor.
