Nipple Shield

I was cleaning up one of the drawers just now and I found a nipple shield. I bought that before I had my first born because SIL told me that breastfeeding is very painful and the nipples will bleed. I was so terrified because I didn’t have any experience. Besides, I had not started reading more about breastfeeding.  So, I bought that box of nipple shield and kept in well.

However, I didn’t need do use it. As long as your baby is latching on well, you don’t need to have any shield to protect your nipples. I have mentioned it over and over again. It’s breastfeeding, not nipple feeding. Unless your baby latches on well, but your nipples are tender, they might get hurt during the first few days. Then you might consider using a nipple shield. Just remember that not all babies can latch on well with the shield! Some newborns are impatient as they have to suckle harder to get the milk.

So, I better dump that nipple shield away.

Hi. Joanne here. I am a member of chinnee’s playgroup and got this blogging fever from her. So, I started reading blogs, giving comments and even started a blog of my own on showering children with love – the right way.

I did not use nipple shield too when I breastfed my youngest girl. Glad to know that you breastfeed because I think breastfeeding needs a lot of determination. Nice to know you.
