Roseola

Both my kids had roseola when there were babies. My boy was hospitalized because at the same time, he had started supplementing with formula milk and he had cow milk intolerance. Besides high fever for more than a week, he had loose stool and upsetting stomach. Thus, his paediatrician advised us to get him hospitalized for further monitoring.

As for Isabelle, her condition with roseola was not that serious. Besides the fever and rash, and the crankiness, she was doing well. Thus, we took care of her at home as I preferred to have her recovered at lovely setting. But everyday, I bought her back for further monitoring.

It’s a scary condition when our kids are having high fever. So make sure that you sponge them often to cool down their body. Most of the time, I prefer to shower them with normal tap water, just a quick one to bring down the temperature. But it can be traumatic to the sick baby if he is not used to bathing in normal running water. In that case, just go back to sponging and let him wear loose clothing.

Most Chinese will dress baby up in thicker clothing when there is a fever, but that is not correct. Baby doesn’t have a good body temperature control, and when he is fever, the heat should be released out with loose clothing. By putting on thicker clothing, it’s harder for the fever to subside and he may have fits.

So, just take note of that.

Mommy of 2 angels, as long as they recovered from it. But to think of those sleepless nights and the hospital stay, that sent chills down my spine. :P
